The Role
This is an on-site contract opportunity for a seasoned Java Backend Developer based in either Jersey City, NJ or Plano, TX. You will be embedded within a high-performing engineering team, taking ownership of backend systems and services that underpin mission-critical applications. This role is built for someone who brings deep technical expertise, thrives in collaborative environments, and is ready to contribute from day one.
---
What You Will Do
• Architect, build, and maintain backend services, APIs, and microservices at scale
• Design and optimize both relational and NoSQL database schemas and queries
• Develop and integrate RESTful APIs and third-party service connections
• Contribute to frontend integration efforts alongside modern JavaScript frameworks
• Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code with long-term scalability in mind
• Conduct thorough code reviews and champion engineering best practices across the team
• Diagnose and resolve complex performance bottlenecks and production incidents
• Participate actively in architecture discussions and technical design sessions
• Implement secure coding standards including authentication, authorization, and data protection
• Support CI/CD pipelines, cloud deployments, and production release processes
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, QA, and DevOps stakeholders
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers
---
What We Are Looking For
• Strong hands-on expertise in Java backend development
• Proven experience building and consuming RESTful APIs and microservices
• Solid command of SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle
• Working knowledge of NoSQL databases including MongoDB, DynamoDB, or comparable technologies
• Proficiency with at least one modern frontend framework such as React.js, Angular, or Vue.js
• Fluency in JavaScript and TypeScript alongside HTML5 and CSS3
• Deep understanding of object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, and design patterns
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
• Familiarity with CI/CD tooling and DevOps workflows
• Strong grasp of application security principles and API security practices
• Experience with unit, integration, and automated testing frameworks
• Proficiency with Git and collaborative version control workflows
The ideal candidate brings a well-rounded engineering background that spans both backend depth and enough frontend fluency to collaborate effectively across the full stack. You are comfortable owning complex features end-to-end — from initial requirements through production deployment — and you bring the system design instincts needed to make sound architectural decisions. Experience working in distributed systems environments and a track record of mentoring peers will set strong candidates apart. This role demands someone who can operate independently, communicate technical tradeoffs clearly, and elevate the standards of the teams around them.
