About This Role

Lead Data Engineer (Contract) — Las Vegas, NV ───────────────────────────────────────── ABOUT THE COMPANY A leading data engineering company at the forefront of large-scale data infrastructure, this organization builds and operates the systems that power critical business intelligence across a complex, high-volume environment. With a collaborative engineering culture and a commitment to technical excellence, they are expanding their team to take on ambitious data initiatives that demand both precision and innovation. ───────────────────────────────────────── THE ROLE This is an onsite, long-term contract opportunity based in Las Vegas, NV, Monday through Friday. As Lead Data Engineer, you will sit at the intersection of hands-on technical delivery and team leadership — guiding a group of talented engineers while remaining deeply embedded in the architecture and development work yourself. If you thrive in environments where your decisions shape both the codebase and the culture of a team, this role was built for you. ───────────────────────────────────────── WHAT YOU WILL DO You will take ownership of the data engineering function for a dedicated squad, setting technical direction and ensuring the team delivers reliable, scalable solutions on time. Day to day, you will design and build sophisticated data pipelines, establish coding standards, and conduct thorough code reviews that elevate the quality of every engineer on your team. You will architect real-time and batch data flows that connect multiple platforms and systems, making critical data available where and when the business needs it. Beyond the technical work, you will mentor engineers, facilitate Agile ceremonies, and serve as the primary decision-maker on tooling, patterns, and best practices for the group. ───────────────────────────────────────── WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR • 7+ years of hands-on data engineering experience • Proven leadership of teams of 5 or more engineers • Deep expertise in Apache Airflow — DAG authoring and orchestration • Strong command of Snowflake architecture and data modeling • Advanced SQL — complex query writing and performance tuning • Apache Kafka — streaming pipelines and event-driven design • Proficiency in Python for pipeline development and automation • Trino — query federation and distributed data access • API integration experience across heterogeneous systems • Familiarity with Agile and Scrum delivery frameworks The ideal candidate brings a rare combination of architectural thinking and ground-level execution. You have spent years building production-grade pipelines and have transitioned into a leadership capacity where you guide others through technical challenges without stepping away from the code yourself. Your background likely spans both batch and streaming paradigms, and you are comfortable making and defending design decisions in fast-moving environments. Strong communication skills are essential — you will regularly translate complex technical concepts for both engineering peers and non-technical stakeholders. ───────────────────────────────────────── NICE TO HAVE • Experience with Airflow 3 and its updated task architecture • Spark Streaming for high-throughput, real-time data processing • SOAP API integration across enterprise systems Candidates who have already worked with Airflow 3 will be able to contribute immediately as the team modernizes its orchestration layer. Exposure to Spark Streaming is a meaningful advantage in an environment where low-latency data movement is increasingly central to the roadmap. SOAP API experience rounds out a profile that can handle legacy enterprise integrations alongside modern REST-based architectures — a practical reality in large, established technology ecosystems. ───────────────────────────────────────── WHAT WE OFFER This is an onsite role based in Las Vegas, NV, offering the energy and collaboration that comes from working shoulder-to-shoulder with a skilled engineering team five days a week. You will have genuine influence over technical direction, the opportunity to mentor and develop engineers at multiple career stages, and exposure to a data platform operating at meaningful scale. For the right candidate, this engagement offers a long-term runway with the potential to grow your leadership footprint as the team and its initiatives expand.
