About This Role

Metrologist (Contract) | Calabasas, CA | On-Site --- About the Company A leading medical device manufacturing company with a global footprint, this organization is dedicated to developing innovative solutions that improve patient outcomes and quality of life. With a strong culture of precision, compliance, and continuous improvement, they set the standard for engineering excellence in their industry. Joining this team means contributing to products that genuinely matter. --- The Role This is an on-site contract opportunity for a skilled Metrologist to join a dynamic Manufacturing Engineering team in Calabasas, CA. In this role, you will take ownership of quality control programs — from design and implementation through to ongoing monitoring and improvement. You will serve as a hands-on technical resource, ensuring that components and finished products meet dimensional specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements. If you thrive in a precision-driven environment and enjoy solving complex measurement challenges, this role is built for you. --- What You Will Do • Design, implement, and continuously improve quality control measurement programs • Perform metrology testing, evaluation, and analysis, delivering clear and actionable reports • Develop and validate inspection methods for new and existing components • Conduct root cause analysis on dimensionally related nonconformances, defining and executing appropriate measurement strategies to support resolution • Collaborate with Design, Manufacturing, and Supplier Engineering teams to ensure product specifications are both measurable and robust • Author and maintain SOPs and Work Instructions in support of inspection and measurement processes • Advise design engineers on measurement feasibility and test requirements during early development stages • Reduce dependency on third-party vendors by building internal metrology capability and expertise • Serve as an informal mentor and technical reference for less experienced team members --- What We Are Looking For • 4+ years of hands-on metrology or dimensional inspection experience • CMM programming proficiency using Mitutoyo COSMOS • Experience operating optical comparators and vision systems • Strong background in metrology testing, analysis, and reporting • Demonstrated ability to develop and validate inspection methods • Root cause analysis experience for dimensional or quality issues • Proven track record writing SOPs and Work Instructions The ideal candidate brings a well-rounded foundation in precision measurement and inspection, with the ability to move fluidly between programming CMMs, operating optical and vision-based equipment, and translating findings into clear documentation. This person is comfortable working independently on complex measurement challenges and can communicate technical findings effectively to cross-functional partners. A methodical, data-driven mindset and a commitment to quality are essential for success in this position. --- Nice to Have • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline • Ability to identify root patterns and key issues from incomplete or conflicting data sets • Experience navigating non-routine situations with sound judgment and initiative • Background collaborating with supplier engineering teams on quality and specification matters • Involvement in new part development and qualification processes Candidates who bring formal academic training alongside their hands-on experience will find themselves well-positioned to contribute from day one. The ability to draw meaningful conclusions from ambiguous or incomplete data is particularly valuable in this environment, where measurement challenges do not always come with straightforward answers. Prior exposure to supplier collaboration or new product introduction processes would allow this individual to add value across a broader range of projects. --- What We Offer This is a full-time, on-site contract position based in Calabasas, CA, offering the opportunity to work alongside experienced engineering professionals in a highly technical and regulated environment. You will gain meaningful exposure to advanced metrology practices within the medical device industry — a sector where precision and quality have real-world impact. For the right candidate, this engagement offers strong potential for professional growth, expanded technical responsibility, and deeper cross-functional collaboration.
