The Role
This is a senior-level contract opportunity for an experienced Release Train Engineer to step into a pivotal leadership role within a scaled Agile environment. Operating fully remote across the United States, you will serve as the connective tissue across multiple Agile teams — driving alignment, sustaining delivery momentum, and cultivating a culture where continuous improvement is the norm. If you thrive at the intersection of strategy and execution and have a passion for enabling high-performing teams, this role is built for you.

What You Will Do
Agile Release Train Leadership
Guide the Agile Release Train with a steady hand, ensuring SAFe principles, ceremonies, and supporting tools are applied consistently to keep value flowing across teams. You will synchronize program-level events, maintain cadence, and broker alignment between delivery teams, product strategy, and technical leadership. When dependencies surface or priorities shift, you will be the one bringing clarity and forward motion.
Program Increment Planning and Execution
Own the end-to-end PI Planning cycle — from readiness activities that sharpen vision and backlog alignment, through Pre-PI, PI Planning, Post-PI, and Inspect and Adapt events. You will track ART health using meaningful metrics and flow-based indicators, turning data into actionable insight and keeping stakeholders informed on delivery outcomes and emerging risks.
Coaching, Culture, and Continuous Improvement
Actively mentor Scrum Masters, Product Owners, Product Managers, Architects, and business partners in Lean-Agile thinking and systems-level problem solving. You will champion psychological safety and shared accountability, creating the conditions where teams can do their best work. Improvement items from retrospectives and problem-solving workshops will be yours to own and drive to resolution.
Dependency and Risk Management
Surface cross-team dependencies and systemic impediments early, escalate where needed, and work collaboratively to resolve blockers before they impact delivery. You will help teams mature their value streams, improving predictability and throughput over time.
Tooling and Operational Enablement
Support effective use of program-level tooling to enhance visibility and decision-making across the ART. Promote Communities of Practice, built-in quality, and modern engineering habits that strengthen the organization's long-term Agile maturity.

What We Are Looking For
• Active SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) 6.0 certification
• 5+ years in Lean-Agile leadership roles (RTE, Agile Coach, Scrum Master, or equivalent)
• Proven experience facilitating PI Planning and all associated ART events
• Strong command of SAFe principles, ceremonies, and program-level execution
• Skilled in cross-team dependency tracking and risk escalation
• Proficiency in Scrum and Kanban methodologies
• Experience coaching diverse stakeholders including leaders, architects, and delivery teams
• Comfortable with on-video collaboration in a fully remote environment
The ideal candidate brings a track record of leading Agile Release Trains through complex, large-scale programs where alignment across many teams and stakeholders is non-negotiable. You are equally comfortable facilitating a room full of engineers and executives during PI Planning as you are rolling up your sleeves to help a Scrum Master work through a team-level impediment. Your coaching instincts are sharp, your communication is clear, and you understand that sustainable delivery is built on trust, transparency, and disciplined execution. This role demands someone who can operate with a high degree of autonomy while staying tightly connected to organizational priorities.

Nice to Have
• SAFe Program Consultant (SPC) 6.0 certification
• Advanced Scrum Master credentials (SAFe A-SSM, CSP-SM, A-CSM, or PSM III)
• Background in healthcare or health solutions technology
• Familiarity with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) practices
• Understanding of Product Development Life Cycle (PDLC) frameworks
• Experience collaborating closely with Product Management on roadmap and backlog strategy
Candidates who bring healthcare industry context will find themselves able to contribute meaningfully from day one, given the domain-specific nuances of this environment. Advanced Scrum Master certifications signal a depth of Agile craft that complements the RTE function well, particularly when coaching Scrum Masters across the ART. Familiarity with both SDLC and PDLC adds valuable perspective when navigating the intersection of technical delivery and product strategy. Experience partnering with Product Management is a strong differentiator for candidates who want to operate at the highest levels of program influence.
